A Giant Step Toward a Leaner Body


I’ve been battling fat for a long time now. After shedding my first twenty-five pounds, it feels good to finally hit another major milestone as I climb toward the next one ahead. This quest toward fitness has been a real experience. Sometimes it was good and sometimes it was not very pleasant at all, but, despite my success thus far, I realize that I’ve only just started. I have a long road ahead and that’s okay!

I remember not that long ago in my first exercise classes when the fitness instructor would repeatedly yell out, “Feel your core!” I would think to myself, “I don’t feel anything! It’s surrounded by fat!”

I’d try to inhale hard enough to feel what I thought was “my core,” but I thought I’d end up either hyperventilating or just passing out from lack of oxygen.

A few weeks ago, I was on the elliptical machine, going as hard as my little legs could go, and I experienced a revelation. Right in the middle of my workout, I suddenly felt my belly button going in and out with each breath. Weird, I know, but please note that it has been years since I could inhale and feel my own navel – this is my core! The one I’ve heard about for so long, but never knew!

So, as I take these baby steps toward fitness, I felt like I took a huge leap, discovering this new part of me that I had no idea even existed!

It was a small sign that I’m doing something right and a giant step forward toward my health goals.
