Blueberry, Banana & Chocolate Blast

I’ve been craving something rich and sweet lately and want to avoid the “bad stuff” as much as possible, so I’ve been using our NutriBullet to satisfy my husband and I’s occasional sweet tooth.

Ever since my cancer treatment center published articles on the amazing benefits of blueberries and how they have been shown to actually combat certain types of cancer cells, I’ve been consuming them on a daily basis in one form or another. We all know that blueberries are high in antioxidants and have many benefits when consumed on a regular basis. In addition to helping us avoid and fight disease, they have been shown to help digestion and prevent premature aging. They are also low on the glycemic index.

We discovered that by combining our daily allowance of blueberries with some other tasty and good for you ingredients, we got our cravings under control. The added benefit is that this drink is filling, keeping me satisfied well until next meal time!

I like to use bananas on the greener side to reduce the natural sugars in my Blast and to add that extra bit of protein. Chia seeds are high in omega 3’s and also contain fiber. The dark chocolate adds a boost of antioxidants and taste.

We have posted several recipes using blueberries, but I wanted to share one that really is just for dessert. Every once in a while, it’s fun to treat yourself and your family to a sweet NutriBlast, and this one happens to be one of my favorites.

Blueberry, Banana & Chocolate Blast
Ingredients
  • ½ cup of frozen or regular organic blueberries
  • 1 small banana, mostly green
  • 1 teaspoon chia seed
  • A good chunk of at least 70 percent dark chocolate
  • 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder
  • Optional: Unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 2 ice cubes
  • 1 cup almond milk
Directions
  1. Add all ingredients to your NutriBullet cup and extract until smooth.

We top ours with non-dairy whipped cream, adding to the delicious and all natural sweetness of this drink.
