Cold and Flu Season
13At the risk of jinxing myself, since I began drinking at least one NutriBlast a day, I have been able to avoid coming down with a cold or the flu. My husband… not so fortunate. While he enjoys his NutriBlasts, which are usually my left overs, he travels quite a bit and is exposed more to the variety of contagious illnesses floating around in the universe.
Historically, when my husband has come down with a cold, the symptoms have lasted up to two painfully exhausting weeks. When he recently started showing signs of an oncoming cold, I decided to try some original concoctions on him to see if I could either knock it out of him or lesson the duration of the cold. I will admit that I was not sure what I was doing and he was skeptical, but desperate, so he went along with my plan of action.
While my usual NutriBlasts consist of mostly greens, seeds and Gogi Berries, I experimented with some almost pure citrus drinks for the first two days and as he began to feel better, I started adding greens. Here is an example of the some of the fruits and vegetables that I used in his cold-battling drinks:
- Orange
- Squeeze of lemon
- Pink Grapefruit
- Pineapple
- Coconut Water
- Almonds
- Spinach
- Avocado
- Gogi Berries
- Broccoli
- Blueberries
I know that you’re probably looking for a specific recipe, but I actually combined as many of the fruits as possible in each drink. As each person is different, some people cannot tolerate as much citrus as others and that’s where the greens come in. My husband has a stomach made of steel, so I was able to ramp up the citrus in his drinks. These fruits taste great combined with the greens!
I am happy to report (and so is my husband), that his cold was gone in three days! Miracle cure, I don’t know for sure. What I do know is that loyal NutriBullet users have an advantage in that they’re building their immune systems to avoid colds and flu. However, in the event of an illness, we can turn to our extractor and fight that illness with healthy ingredients like the ones listed above.
Here’s to staying healthy!

I have at least one blast a day and when I don’t I feel off! My periods are much better, hardly any pain this month and no PMS. Energy is great and lost 10lbs without trying, just replace breakfast with the blast. I am getting over a very bad cold in 3 days which is lightning fast for me, usually if a cold hits me I get upper respiratory or bronchitis … Been blasting for about 45 days.. I can only imagine how healthy I will be in a few months.. Best money I have ever spent.
Silvana, that is awesome news! Isn’t it just amazing..
I’m confused, I was always taught not to mix fruits and veggies, the digestive enzymes don’t mix in the gut well
Hi Bernadette. I’ve never heard that, but I would like to share my personal experience in making my veggie and fruit drinks. Prior to using the NutriBullet I had been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis…talk about not digesting. I was a fixture at the ER. No kidding-since drinking my fruit/veggies, I never had another episode (I’m currently knocking on wood), and my UC has gone into remission per my doctor.
Are you referring to certain types of fruits that shouldn’t be mixed with veggies?
From our FAQ page:
6. Q: Doesn’t a NutriBlast go against the “food combining rules”?
A: Sometimes certain food-combing can be bad because of the competing enzymes and digestive energy that is spent on various food components (in whole form). When the NutriBullet pulverizes foods, it’s reverting food to it’s pre-digested state, reducing the load on the GI system and making them more easily absorbable. By consuming fruits, veggies and boosts in this manner, many find it less taxing on their digestion as compared to ingesting food in its whole food.
GOJI BERRIES
Yes, Angelica. Gogi Berries…I usually add these to everything!
spinach
one orange
one lemon
piece of ginger
vitality superblast (nutribullet powder superboost)
chia seeds
water
great citrus pickme up with a great flavor ..
In the past I’ve always gotten a sinus infection brought on by the change in weather at the beginning of fall and random upper respiratory issues throughout winter. I started blasting in July and so far the only sinus issues I’ve had are allergy related. No colds or sinus infections (knock on wood). On a side note… most of my pms symtoms have disappeared so now there’s virtually no warning at all. I guess that’s a good problem to have.
Yay! Good for you April!
