Wow – summer is finally here! It’s my favorite season. The kids are out of school, BBQs are going on and there’s family fun galore! Tropical drinks are also on the menu now, meaning pretty colors, fun flavors, and a bit of alcohol for the wild ones! To quote my favorite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, “Why is the rum always gone?” Well, not today! Nothing compliments a party better than a pitcher full of fruity beverages, courtesy of my trusty NutriBullet.
Now, don’t get me wrong. Alcohol is optional and should be consumed responsibly. You can leave it out entirely or sub for your preferences. No pressure! The shining star is really the tropical fruit and their fresh, summer flavor.
What exactly is meant by the term ‘tropical fruit’ anyway? These are fruits grown in tropical or subtropical climates close to the equator, where the weather is warm and humid year round. Most fruits are larger in size and brightly colored. They are bursting with flavor, full of vitamins and fiber, too. They are the perfect addition to a summertime gathering and a NutriBlast.
- 1 banana
- ½ cup of chunked pineapple, fresh or frozen
- 1 cup of chunked mango, fresh or frozen
- handful of spinach
- coconut water or pineapple coconut water to max line
- 3 ice cubes
- Rum, to taste – optional
- whipped cream topping – optional
Add all ingredients except the rum to the tall NutriBullet cup and extract. Pour into two cups; add rum and a shot of whip cream if desired.
A tropical Blast is like taking a quick culinary vacation to the Caribbean! This drink has some of my favorite fruit and veggies. It’s also perfect as breakfast or a snack (without the rum!) Try adding papayas and oranges for a different flavor combination. The possibilities are endless!
