Sweet Dreams Blast

9

I have always had a terrible time sleeping and sleeping through the night, especially now that I’m older. The real sleep problems started when I was pregnant with my first. I know this was nature’s way of preparing me for motherhood, but it never went away. Matter of fact, it has gotten worse through the years. It doesn’t matter how tired I am, as soon as my head hits the pillow, my eyes pop open and my thoughts start racing. I have a hard time turning off my brain.

I have always enjoyed eating a little something before bedtime. I hate going to bed hungry, but I’ve always been careful to make sure I snack on something healthy that’s not going to keep me awake.

Doze off and keep your metabolism burning through the night with this delicious Blast, courtesy of Dr. Michael Breus, PhD, The Sleep Doctor.

Sweet Dreams Blast

  • 1 cup of either pitted cherries or red tart cherry juice (I like to use frozen cherries.)
  • ½ banana
  • ½ cup soy milk, or milk alternative (almond milk, coconut milk, etc.)
  • ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 3-4 ice cubes
  • water to line

Add all ingredients to the tall NutriBullet cup and extract until smooth.

Cherry is one of the most popular flavors in the world. Cherries are considered a super fruit because they are an excellent source of vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. They are one of the richest known sources of melatonin, a natural hormone that assists in regulating the body’s sleeping patterns. Besides potassium, bananas contain loads of magnesium, a calming mineral.  Lastly, soymilk is high in tryptophan, the sleep-inducing amino acid.  This is the perfect combination of wholesome and soothing to promote slumber.

If you are having trouble sleeping, drinking this Blast before bedtime can be a great idea.

Sweet Dreams!
